Against Me!‘s recent appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno kicked off with Jay quoting a recent review describing them as “one of the best punk rock bands ever.” They performed “I Was a Teenage Anarchist” from their 2010 album, White Crosses.

All Time Low has signed to Interscope Records, reports TCDC Media. The band, formerly signed to Hopeless Records, released Put Up or Shut Up, So Wrong, It’s Right and Nothing Personal since signing to Hopeless.
The new record is expected in January.

The company holding the name to the legendary CBGB club has filed for bankruptcy. Though the club itself shut down in late 2006, the name was purchased by a company that wanted to continue selling the venues’ memorabilia and T-shirts. The club was first launched in 1973 by the late Hilly Kristal. Kristal ran the club from 1973 to 2006, giving vital early support to the scene that brought the world the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Blondie, the Talking Heads and many others. The club closed following a prolonged battle with the venue’s landlords, with the ensuing tributes and send-off shows solidifying the venue’s status as a punk rock mecca and possibly the genre’s greatest landmark.
According to the CBC report, “the filing lists debts of $1 to $10 million US, but does not say why the company is seeking bankruptcy protection.“

East Bay Ray, of Dead Kennedys fame, has released the first new song from his band, The Killer Smiles. Along with Ray, the band features Skip McSkipster from the Wynona Riders, drummer Steve Wilson (from Tatu) and bassist Greg Reeves of Cordovan. The band recorded an album at El Dorado Studios in Los Angeles with Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers, Sublime).

The Dead Kennedys declared an indefinite touring hiatus due to health issues faced by bassist Klaus Flouride and drummer D.H. Peligro.

Green Day‘s Broadway musical version of American Idiot has won two of the three Tony awards for which it was nominated. The show lost Best Musical to Memphis but won for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. Producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman, director Michael Mayer and star John Gallagher Jr. all worked on 2007’s Tony-winning “Spring Awakening.”
Green Day also performed live with the cast.

Weezer has posted a video for their World Cup song, “Represent.” The track is also a free download via iTunes.
Bigwig have (re-)posted another rare track. The new addition is the band’s take on the Jawbreaker classic, “Ashtray Monument.” The song comes from Jawbreaker’s last independent release, 24 Hour Revenge Therapy which was released in 1994. Bigwig’s cover of the song previously appeared on the 2003 Dying Wish Records compilation, Bad Scene, Everyone’s Fault: Jawbreaker Tribute. That compilation also includes Face to Face, Fall Out Boy, Sparta, Kill Your Idols, Nerf Herder and many others.
The reason for the re-posting is so that Bigwig could announce plans to release a remastered version of the song as part of a remastered b-sides compilation expected on vinyl and digital download later in 2010.

Metal/punk act Protest The Hero are aiming to hit the studio in August to record the follow up to 2008’s Fortress. They posted this update:
We made a little video of some of the stuff we have been working at in the space for the past few months. As it looks right now, we will be starting the actual recording process in August.
The band has also posted a video showing some of the pre-production process and rehearsals for the record. Since the release of their last full length, the Toronto-based band released the live album, Gallop Meets the Earth in 2009.

New wave and punk pioneers Devo have posted a stream of their upcoming album. The band took an unusual route for the album, by launching an Official Song Study. The band posted portions of each of the tracks they recorded for the album and asked fans to rank and vote about which songs would appear on the final full length. Of the sixteen songs shown in this way, fans and study participants selected the 12 that will appear on the album itself. The record is titled Something For Everybody and is due out June 15, 2010 via Warner. It’s their first since 1990’s Smooth Noodle Maps.
