Protagonist’s trailer and gear stolen

ProtagonistPaper+Plastick act Protagonist had their trailer stolen when they made a stop in Tulsa, OK yesterday. The band made the following statement:

We’re all a little scatter-brained and shocked right now so I don’t even know where to begin, but our trailer was stolen off of our van sometime between 5-7:30am this morning from a Days Inn Airport Hotel/Denny’s parking lot last night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The van was parked right side of our hotel room in a very well lit parking lot that the hotel shares with a Denny’s Restaurant. That lot is where the hotel asked us to park it, and the staff at the 24-hour Denny’s told us the van would be safe there as well. But we were wrong. The pin lock was somehow removed, the chains were cut, and no trace of the trailer was left behind. We drove 18 hours straight from Florida to Tulsa,OK to record with Stephen Egerton. We were supposed to start early this morning hence pulling into town yesterday evening.

Jeff Rosenstock talks about BTMI, free music, Against Me! and Green Day

Jeff Rosenstock, provocateur behind Bomb the Music Industry! and Quote Unquote Records recently sat down with Jewcy for an interview about his influences, goals and feelings about the punk scene. For example, he explains the short road from Dookie to Operation Ivy:

I did the Epitaph thing a lot more than I did the Lookout! thing just because Epitaph had better produced records. I wasn’t ready after listening to Green Day, to take in Crimpshrine right away. But I was definitely was ready to listen to NOFX and Down by Law and Rich kids on LSD. Then somebody had the Operation Ivy Record. I remember listening to it in somebody’s basement and just sitting there and reading the lyrics and being like, “Oh fuck!” From that point on I was listening to stuff more like that.

He also notes his love of Titus Andronicus and LCD Soundsystem and the real reason he thinks people were disappointed in Against Me!:

It’s no secret to the public that Tom Gabel feels like he’s been rejected by the punk scene that he really cared about ever since they signed to Fat and got their tires slashed. So I can see where he’s coming from. I don’t personally like New Wave or White Crosses and not because they signed to a major label. I was a little disappointed that instead they became a more focused and polished rock band. But that’s just me. I think a lot of us were like, “Yo, Against Me! is this band that plays loud and hard every night and they don’t even care how many tickets are counted at the door! I could do this too!” I guess seeing them sign to a major label was a little disenchanting but, I mean fuck, who am I?

None More Black recording new album

None More Black have posted the first two blog updates as they begin recording their first new album since This Is Satire in 2006. The first entry talks a bit about the album itself:

We started writing this record in February of 2009 – it’s not that the songs were so complex that it took that long to get right – it’s more like not really having time to nurture them like we have in the past. We all live in separate cities spreading from NYC to Orlando, which means we can’t just get together on a weeknight to work out some tunes. [N]ow, year and half later, 11 have survived to make up the albume we will call “Icons”

It was stressful few months before the recording, since we were unsure what Fat was willing to give us as a budget. […] Our budget pretty much meant that J. Robbins would be out of the question in terms a producer role, or any role for that matter. The budget would mean we have to become weekend warriors in the studio as well.

The good thing is that over the passed few years Colin has developed a relationship with wunderkind musical engineer/producer Will Yipp. He works out of the most famous recording in the Philly area called Studio, owned by the great Phil Nicollo. Will said he would be very excited to work on the project.
