Green Day drummer Tré spoke with Gameinformer about their upcoming Rock Band game due out June 8, 2010. Specifically, Tré explains the absence of the band’s much beloved Lookout! Records-era material, from the track listing. Fans were confused by the absence since the band owns both 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour and Kerplunk! after obtaining them from Lookout!.
He noted:
We wanted to get stuff from 39/Smooth and Kerplunk! on there, too, but the tapes are really old. I don’t know if you know about analog tapes, but to transfer them you need to play them. They are kind of stuck together right now. You have to “bake” them, and then you have one chance to run it over the machine to transfer it to make stems. Once it hits the head, it comes off the other side shredded. We’re making sure we have the right dudes to do it. We’re actually booking it; there’s one place in Burbank that still does it. We’re going to bite the bullet and shred our old tapes and put it to digital.

A Utah citizen is outraged by the use of free expression by Canadian indie rock outfit, The New Pornographers. A letter in the Salt Lake Tribune complains that “In this time of moral and financial crisis” the band’s very name “promotes thoughts about pornography, which contributes to crimes against women and children” and seems deeply concerned about a perceived designated driver program.
Considering Becker’s agenda of “fairness,” to whom is even the name “New Pornographers” being fair to? Is it fair to the victims of the 6,500 registered sex offenders in Utah? Why does Becker want to promote thoughts about pornography, which contributes to crimes against women and children? Whose side is he on? My father was killed by a drunken driver. Is Becker going to provide rides for those who get drunk from the alcohol he brings in for a city event?
Check out the entire letter here.
