Interviews: Nicholas Andrew Sadler (Daughters/Fang Island)
While it’s a strange experience interviewing a person about a band that they’re no longer in, it is also an interesting one because they can paint a unique – albeit slightly biased – picture of the music. This was the case with Nicholas Andrew Sadler, the former guitarist and vocalist of Daughters, who had recently left the band at the time of the already booked interview. Now in Fang Island, the nostalgic Sadler chatted with Punkews contributor Gen Handley about the trials, tribulations and recent album of his former band, while attempting to navigate the Fang Island tour van from the SXSW festival in Austin to New Orleans.

Roger Ebert posts screenplay for Sex Pistols movie
Influential movie critic, screenwriter (and video game contrarian) Roger Ebert has posted the entirety of a screenplay he wrote for a film about the Sex Pistols which was originally set to be directed by acclaimed director and boobologist, Russ Meyer. The film was intended as a punk rock version of the Beatles classic, A Hard Day’s Night. When the film was scrapped, Malcom McLaren eventually made The Great Rock and Roll Swindle with director Julien Temple which included some short scenes from the shoot. Roger Ebert posted this introduction as well:
This, for the benefit of future rock historians, is the transscript of a screenplay I wrote in the summer of 1977. It was tailored for the historic punk rock band the Sex Pistols, and was to be directed by Russ Meyer and produced by the impresario Malcolm McLaren. It still carried its original title, “Anarchy in the U.K.,” although shortly after I phoned up with a suggested title change, which was accepted: “Who Killed Bambi?” I wrote about this adventure in my blog entry McLaren & Meyer & Rotten & Vicious & me. Discussions with Meyer, McLaren and Rene Daalder led to this draft. All I intend to do here is reprint it. Comments are open, but I can’t discuss what I wrote, why I wrote it, or what I should or shouldn’t have written. Frankly, I have no idea.
Check it out here.

Due out June 22, 2010, the record is the second for the band which is often compared to “Hellacopters/Turbonegro rock n’ roll with Black Flag’s and Bad Brains’ inspired hardcore with a crushing balance of both Morbid Angel’s heaviness and the raw intensity of power violence pioneers Dropdead and Masskontroll.”
