Switchfoot: “Sorrow” (Bad Religion)

The latest cover in the MySpace and SPIN-curated tribute to Bad Religion has been posted. Switchfoot covered “Sorrow” from 2002’s The Process Of Belief. Switchfoot previously tackled the song back in 2006. Interestingly, Switchfoot takes its origins from the Christian alt-rock scene and Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz once explained to Punknews.org that “Sorrow” was deeply critical of the Christian view of god:

The devil said “Give me one example” and god said “Look at Job, he’s a righteous man.” The devil said that he could corrupt him like any man, and they made a wager. And that was god’s way of rewarding the one righteous man on the planet. That was god turning his back on the one man who was good and righteous. That’s not god, that’s religion. That’s an example of how detestable religion is. What is the lesson there?

As a bonus, we’ve included another cover of “Sorrow” from dutch punk outfit Travoltas.

Pennywise Back with Epitaph Records

In a new interview, Pennywise confirms they have returned to Epitaph Records and Epitaph, for their part, continue their path to world domination. Guitarist Fletcher Dragge commented:

Now we’re ready to go back to our home, Epitaph. It’s always been our home. It’s the greatest independent record label in the world. Brett’s the greatest fucking label boss there is. He’s a punk rocker, he knows how we think, he supports Pennywise a hundred percent and he feels like “I’m here for you guys.”

And the MySpace thing, just to be clear on that, was we gave that record away. So it was really cool to be able to give away the record. It was really cool to be able to do something cool for the fans, get some new fans. We negotiated a one record deal. We knew that that record company was going to be under in a year. We’re going to be able to get that record back from MySpace now and probably put it out on Epitaph; and we were able to utilize that corporate machine. We used that like a Trojan Horse; we used the corporate machine to get our message out to five hundred and fifty thousand people

The Sword loses drummer, postpones tour

Due to the departure of drummer Trivett Wingo, The Sword has cancelled their current tour. Wingo explained:

It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Sword. After nearly seven years and some of the most amazing adventures of a lifetime, I have arrived at a place where I am physically and emotionally unable to continue on as part of The Sword. If I could go any further, I would as I love the music and JD, Bryan and Kyle are people that I deeply respect, but I have reached a point where I just can’t do this anymore. I would like to thank the wonderful people who made this experience what it has been: the fans, the people that I have worked and all of the bands and musicians that have inspired me over the years. I thank you and apologize for any disappointment that this may cause anyone, not least of which The Sword.

The band has been supporting their 2010 album, Warp Riders.
