The Holy Mountain detail ‘Here is No Exit’ 12″

The Holy Mountain The Holy Mountain have announced details for Here is No Exit, the band’s first release in three years. The album will come in the form of a 12″ picture disc featuring four new songs on Side A and seven various tracks from splits with Black Tusk, Cobra Noir, Deathcycle and Cave Canem making up Side B.

No Idea Records will release Here is No Exit sometime in the winter, but the band has copies for sale on their current European tour.

Grinderman: “Grinderman 2”

Grinderman Grinderman, the acclaimed garage rock band formed by Nick Cave (vocals, electric guitar, organ, piano), Warren Ellis (electric bouzouki, Fendocastor, violin, viola, acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Martyn P. Casey (bass, acoustic guitar, backing vocals) and Jim Sclavunos (drums, percussion, backing vocals, have posted a stream of their sophomore album. The band, which shares all its members with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, will be releasing Grinderman 2 on September 14, 2010 via Anti-.

Dr. Strange reissues Government Issue and Stalag 13

Dr. Strange Records has announced that they have just reissued two classic records from D.C.’s Government Issue and Nardcore legends Stalag 13. Dr. Strange has announced that both Government Issue’s “The Fun Never Ends” and Stalag 13’s “In Control” will also feature bonus tracks not available on the original releases.

Against Me!: “Pints of Guinness Make You Strong (Full Band Acoustic)”

Late last month, Against Me! visited Banquet Records in Kingston, UK to perform a live, acoustic set with the full band before they played the Fighting Cocks later that night, and Reading and Leeds that weekend. The band recorded a full band, acoustic rendition of “Pints Of Guinness Make You Strong” and the video is brought to you by Everything Sucks TV.

More on Vandals vs. Variety

Billboard is reporting on the resuming of hostilities between the Daily Variety and The Vandals. According to the report, bassist (and lawyer) Joe Escalante is fighting the suit himself. He noted:

I’m spending ridiculous amounts of hours on this. Like four to 10 hours a day. It’s a nightmare, but I’m learning how to do litigation. I hired a guy to teach me how to do it in Delaware.

Reed Elsevier, Variety’s parent company commented on the suit as well:

While we don’t expect the Vandals to see the issues through our eyes, the publicity they have generated and continue to generate contains inaccuracies, out-of-context statements and false innuendo. This is a breach of contract suit based on materials and links posted on the Vandals’ websites. We look forward to a court deciding these issues.

Earlier this summer, Escalante commented on how the lawsuit was making it impossible for the band to release new material until the situation had been resolved.

Negative Approach: “Friends of No One”

Negative Approach have posted three songs from their upcoming 7-inch, Friends of No One. The 7-inch and CDEP is due out on Taang! Records and actually represents material recorded in 1984 but (officially) released for the first time this year.

The band’s 10-Song EP is being reissued on October 12, 2010 by Touch and Go Records.

Blake Schwarzenbach comments on New York, 9/11 and the Islamic Center

Blake Schwarzenbach of forgetters, Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil has posted a thoughtful essay on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary talking about New York City in general as well as commenting on the Islamic Center controversy:

I know that when people are critical of memorial holidays it can come off as churlish and arch, and I don’t want to be that anymore; I don’t want to be part of the culture of complaint, the whinging left that can never be happy unless it is battling upwards against nefarious superpowers. So I would suggest this: let us be sad for once and re-affirm our commitment to being alive while we can.

Music 4 Cancer, a Canadian non-profit, has posted samples from their two new compilations set to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. The following bands have been confirmed: Ten Foot Pole, Good Riddance, NOFX, Nikola Sarcevic of Millencolin, The Sainte Catherines, The Hot Showers, Kvoteringen (feat. Fredrik Larzon of Millencolin, Franky Lee (feat. Mathias Färm of Millencolin, Everything Against Them, Teen Idols, Tom Petta of Bigwig, Frank Turner, Les Vulgaires Machins and Pour Habit.

NOFX: “Everything in Moderation (Especially Moderation)”

NOFX has posted a video for their song, “Everything in Moderation (Especially Moderation).” The song comes from their latest release, The Longest EP. The disc contains many of the band’s EPs and singles including The Longest Line, Never Trust a Hippy and more. It is the second singles compilation from the band, following 45 or 46 Songs That Weren’t Good Enough To Go On Our Other Records from 2002.

The video was “slapped together” by Jeff Penalty who previously collaborated with the band on Backstage Passport.
