Today is the 25th Anniversary of the venerable compact disc. On August 17th, 1982, the world’s first CD pressing plant punched out its very first disc. According to documents, that CD was Abba’s The Visitors. (Ask your parents) More than 200 billion CDs have been sold since then.
Even you vinyl nuts probably have a few of these ubiquitous discs floating around your home. To celebrate the anniversary, we could find no better person to both explain and comment on the compact disc than Ben Weasel, and appropriately enough, he did so way back in 1998 on the Screeching Weasel EP Major Label Debut.
To that end, we asked Ben if we could stream the song in honor of the anniversary. You can check it out on Screeching Weasel’s Punknews.org Profile. Be sure to listen to it all the way through or you may miss Ben’s oh-so subtle commentary.
