In a recent Billboard interview, experimental rock/metal band Deftones discussed plans for their next album. Frontman Chino Moreno discussed the bands interest in a more raw songwriting and recording process, which is in contrast to the band’s last effort, Saturday Night Wrist, which saw multiple producers come and go.
We’re going in there and playing as five of us in the room with just our instruments, no other distractions. That’s how we started out, basically, when we first started the band — us in the garage, no ProTools or anything to get us ahead of ourselves. We’d just play things over and over again, until we remembered it — that’s the rawest way you can do it, and the best, I think.
In related news, Moreno’s side-project, Team Sleep, have nearly completed their second album, which is planned for release in early 2008.
