Toronto’s Fembots will release their new record Calling Out on September 16th via Weewerk. The eclectic indie folk duo of Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier are joined on the album by Iner Souster and drummer Nathan Lawr. Souster is known for creating improvisational instruments from garbage, kindly referred to as “junkstruments.” While FemBots found the instruments to unpredictable to provide the entirety of the album’s instrumentals, they did form the rhythmic base for the songs. Calling Out, the band’s fourth record, also features string and horn scores from the Hylozoists’ Paul Aucoin.
The songs “Good Days,” “My Hands Are A City” and “Ship Breaking” can be found at MySpace.
If FemBots seem familiar to some Punknews readers, you’ll recall that Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier were touring members of the Weakerthans while that band was supporting Reconstruction Site.
