Me First and the Gimme Gimmes detail “Dolly” seven-inch

Me First and The Gimme Gimmes have detailed their upcoming seven inch. The record is titled Dolly and is due out October 16, 2007. It is the first new release from the band since Love Their Country which was released in 2006.

As this single will be the first in the “Square Dance” series, the vinyl itself will actually be cut into a square instead of the traditional, uhm, circle shape. There will be 1000 pressed and they will be available only through Fat Mailorder.

As expected, the disc will include two covers, “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” both by Dolly Parton. The former appeared on Love Their Country and the latter is previously unreleased. It also has a weird historical context in that in 2002, the Iraqi government held a referendum asking whether Saddam Hussein should remain as president. Pro-Hussein advertising before the election featured the song. That isn’t in the press release, but we thought you should know.
