This past week President Bush has signed a controversial new bill which aims to strengthen anti-piracy efforts in the United States and create greater penalties for copyright infringement. The RIAA / MPAA supported law creates an intellectual property czar who will report directly to the president and allows for asset forfeiture. Bands continue to express concern on the new digital reality, with Sweden’s Millencolin recently making their views known. In a bizarre twist donation-supported digital label Quote Unquote Records were recently shut down by their ISP for providing copyright material for download — material they themselves own. In other news eager Punknews readers have taken to demanding answers directly from Propagandhi about their next record. Look for it this winter. Fans were shocked to hear that the legendary Elvis Costello would appear on the new record from popular act Fall Out Boy. That album has also been delayed from it’s original election day release date until December.

Next January will see a new EP from the Loved Ones. Suburban Home Records has announced a free Delicious Vinyl Collective 12″ to be available at the Fest this Halloween weekend. Dead To Me are gearing up for the release of their new EP Little Brother and have the title track available for download. Rise Against have their Nightmare Revisited track “Making Christmas” available for preview as well. Green Day has new studio footage online. We saw a clip of Fucked Up and Moby performing the Ramones classic “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Tom Gabel of Against Me! has a new video online of his new solo track “Harsh Realms.” Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat and Fugazi will soon embark on a spoken word / q&a tour.

This week the Canadian punk scene lost one if its veterans, as we said goodbye to Teenage Head vocalist Frankie Venom (1957-2008).

This week we ran your votes through the cold, unfeeling Punknews computer-brain and calculated Your Favorite Records from September. The results saw records from Bridge and Tunnel, Young Widows and the Ergs come out on top.

This week we spoke with Kim Helm ad Brian Johnson of Whiskey and Co (interview) as well as Greg Attonito of the Bouncing Souls (interview). This week’s edition of Vinyl File featured a look at upcoming releases. As always we brought you new Streaming Music including Dillinger Four‘s long-awaited new record C I V I L W A R, the debut full length debut from Shorebirds, featuring Matt Canino of Latterman and Jawbreaker‘s Chris Bauermeister, Orlando’s How Dare You, featuring former members of As Friends Rust and Hand to Hand, and the sole LP from now-defunct RVA melodic hardcore act Resonance.
