Rise Against (with Dennis Lyxzén and Brian Baker): “Minor Threat (Minor Threat)”

While in Sweden, Rise Against joined Dennis Lyxzén of Refused and Brian Baker of Bad Religion to perform a live rendition of the track “Minor Threat” as originally performed by Minor Threat. The performance is particularly notable since Baker was a member of the original band and performed on the original Minor Threat EP released just under 30 years ago and collected on Complete Discography.

You Say Party! We Say Die! changes name, shifts lineup

In the wake of the death of Devon Clifford this past April, Abbotsford B.C. dance-punk act You Say Party! We Say Die! has implemented some significant changes. In a statement they commented:

We have talked at great length with each other and our families and friends about the future. Devon’s parents have encouraged us to continue on and given us their blessing. It is their opinion (as well as ours) that Devon would never have wanted his death to end the band. He would have wanted us to continue on.

In the time between Devon’s passing and this statement, we have all reflected upon our personal lives. Krista has decided that her time with us has come to an end as she no longer desires the long drives, poor sleeps and revolting selection of road food. Instead she’s choosing a home, a garden, some gluten-free baking and a proper education. We will miss Krista very much and she remains a part of our lives.

We have turned to our good friends and former tour-mates Robert Andow and Bobby Siadat of Vancouver band “Gang Violence” to play keyboards and drums This new line up will continue the tradition of excellent live shows and sweaty dance floors, with new strength and a renewed commitment to music and touring. The 5 of us look forward to carrying the spirit of our friend Devon with us everywhere.

Furthermore the band is changing their name to simply You Say Party. Their previously cancelled European tour dates are being rescheduled for this fall under the new moniker.

Marky Ramone sues to get unpaid royalties

TMZ (sigh) is reporting that Marky Ramone, who took over drumming for the legendary Ramones for the release of Road to Ruin and remained as sole drummer for fifteen years, is suing the people behind his royalties agreement. According to a legal filing in New York Supreme Court, Marky says he signed a new royalties deal in 2005 but stopped receiving payments in 2008 due to “some allegedly shady business dealings.

Marky claims that the company in charge of managing the bands royalties completely ignored the contract and took Ramones money that didn’t belong to them. Ramone claims he’s owed about $175,000 in back royalties and is also asking for $1 million in punitive damages.
