On the eve of his opening for Green Day at Wembley last night, Frank Turner visited The Sun to perform the Queen classic, “I Want to Break Free.” The song and band had a special significance to Turner who mentioned it when the show with Green Day was first announced:
The [Tribute to Freddie Mercury] was a major musical milestone in my life. My older sister made me watch it with her, and we taped the whole thing over a number of VHS cassettes (swapping them over as fast as possible so as not to miss anything). I was 10 years old, I’d just started finding out about music, but seeing Metallica, Guns n Roses, Spinal Tap (!) and a host of others playing Queen tunes was a major eye-opener for me. We watched those tapes till they broke.
Four Year Strong have posted the video for “It Must Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now.” The band filmed the video for the single in London’s East End earlier this month. The band is also gearing up for the release of a “deluxe” version of their 2010 album, Enemy of the World. As we reported earlier, the reissue is due out June 25, 2010 (June 22 on iTunes) and will feature a new studio track, “Bad News Bearz” and acoustic versions of four songs: “Tonight We Feel Alive (On A Saturday),” “One Step At A Time,” “Find My Way Back” and “Wasting Time (Eternal Summer)”
Black Lips have released a new single as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program. The band contributed the song, “Before You Judge Me,” to the weekly series which also featured Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, and others. If you like it, I think you have to buy a Kia or something.
Bloomington Indiana’s Austin Lucas is in the midst of tour of Canada and the US. Having just cleared the stage in St. Catharines the singer / songwriter will teck back to Toronto on the 18th for a recently added house show before hopping the border for a short US jaunt with The Wooden Sky. At the end of July Lucas will cross back into Canada and head west to perform at the Sled Island festival in Calgary alongside bands like Hot Water Music, The Melvins, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and Fucked Up.
Lucas is supporting 2009’s Somebody Loves You as well as his new demo and b-sides collection on Suburban Home Records titled Collection. On the tour the songwriter has a new split demo available which features five new songs recorded in January plus four from his tourmate Christina Wagner. Wagners songs, one of which features Lucas as a guest, were recorded this past February by Rob McGregor at Florida’s Goldentone Studios. SourceContinue reading Tours: Austin Lucas (Canada / US)→
Post-rock quartet This Will Destroy You has been through a lot in recent years, but now the band has a light at the end of their tunnel…blanket. The entire band sat down for a chat with myself in a foggy backroom at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory last week and we have the textual results ready for you.
Cincinnati, OH pop-punks The Dopamines will unleash their new album Expect the Worst on June 29, 2010 and in the name of taking things too far, we’ve teamed up with the band and Paper and Plastick to give one unlucky winner a prize pack that includes a skipping Expect the Worst test press, a broken iPod and Mikey Erg’s broken guitar.
Today’s Map Pack 3 release includes two more challenging environments – Urban Planning and Tactical Diversion. Its the third of four great map packs in the Resurgence series. Urban Planning is a dense environment with restrictive build spaces, forcing difficult decisions against continuously attacking hordes. In Tactical Diversion, survey the small, snow covered platform and consider numerous possibilities. But be prepared for the aerial assault!
