Punkcore Records to stop releasing records
Punkcore Records has posted an update on their status as a label:
As many of you have noticed, we haven’t released any new albums in over a year. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the status of Punk Core these days so here’s the deal. For our 20th anniversary we’ve decided to put the label to rest and go back to where we started 20 years ago, as a mail order service. We’re launching our new web store and bringing back the feature that we’ve missed the most….rare vinyl! Click on the banner above or the link to the left to check it out. Much of our back catalog of Punk Core releases are still available at Itunes or on CD or both. We may start releasing new albums again in the future, we may not. Time will tell. We’ve received your messages and once again we wish to thank everyone who has supported Punk Core over the last twenty years, past present and…future!
The label was responsible for a number of bands, including The Havoc, Cheap Sex, Defiance, Action, Blood Or Whiskey, Career Soldiers and The Casualties. The label was founded in 1989 by Dave Amcher and was one of the labels credited with reviving street punk in the early 90s.

Danke, my hard-hatted friend!
After slaving away for over a year, the fine folks at Polycount have unveiled their new community site for video game artwork. Given that a year is roughly the time it takes for us to post a blog update, you can imagine our immediate and deeply-held suspicion that they probably used magic. Possibly black magic. I won’t bore you with the details, but long story short, we immediately raced to their office, armed with holy water and fire, to confront them. Several police officers informed us that we were mistaken, and then made us apologize to the wizards, and then made us stop calling them wizards.
At any rate, to help celebrate, we’ve teamed up with them to run The Polycount Pack contest. Whether you’re a modeler who’s submitted work to the Contribute page already, or a beginner looking for a great community to give you useful feedback, this contest is the thing you’re looking for.
And guess what: If you’re not a modeler, you’re even luckier. Why? You don’t have to do anything at all, and you’ll still be getting free content from suckers your fellow players.
Remember, if you see someone carrying one of these “self-made” items, make sure you thank them for their work! (But then, of course, shoot them.)

Social Distortion finish writing new album, get ready to record vocals
Social Distortion have updated their Twitter with this news: “The album is tracked… finishing up writing and getting ready to head back into the studio to record vocals.”
The band, who recently signed to Epitaph Records, will release their new album in the fall. The record will be the band’s first of all new material since 2004’s Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll. It will also be their first release with a new lineup consisting of Mike Ness (vocals, guitar), Jonny “2 Bags” Wickersham (guitar) and Brent Harding (bass). There has been no confirmation whether drummer Atom Willard (who left last March) or his replacement Scott Reeder has been involved in the recording.
In addition to a new album, Social Distortion will tour the U.S. this summer with Dan Sartain and The Action Design. The tour kicks off July 27 in Poughkeepsie, NY and makes seven stops in the Northeast before the band heads to Chicago for an August 7 main stage performance at this year’s Lollapalooza. Dates with Dan Sartain and The Action Design resume in Green Bay, Wisconsin on August 8. Check out those dates here.
