Upcoming 1-2-3-4 Go! releases from the Cute Lepers (Briefs), Off With Their Heads

1-2-3-4 Go! Records, the label behind the recent Ringers full length and the Replacements tribute We’ll Inherit the Earth, has announced a number of upcoming plans. The label will release the debut from the Cute Lepers, a power-pop side project of the Briefs‘ Steve E. Nix and Steve Kicks. The two song 7″ will feature the songs “Terminal Boredom” backed with “Prove It” and should be available by early June.

In addition the label has announced a CD release from Off with Their Heads, presumably the follow up full length to Hospitals but details have yet been announced. This release joins the already announced In The Red / Git Some split 7″ the label has on deck.

MP3 of the Week: Staring Back

Justin: Staring Back‘s swan song On is perhaps one of the most criminally ignored records of the last few years. The blend of SoCal punk, Strung Out-influenced metal and slight tinges of hardcore is a unique beast. Nowadays the band is dead, the members are fairly busy in Yellowcard or Sicker Than Others, and chances for another show are doubtful.
Anyways.
However as today is Mother’s Day I figured I’d share with you all one of their earlier tracks. “Mom” comes from Many Will Play and is one of the most amusing and enjoyable songs ever. We’re not talking a super-serious ballad here, more of a tongue-in-cheek (I hope) ode to someone’s “hardcore mom.” What else can you say? It’s got some immature pop-punk vocals and some beginner’s riffs by Ryan Mendez.

Staring Back – “Mom” – Kevin Wade approved!!!

I hope everyone got something for their Moms today.

Stza comments that the band has up to 10 songs worth of material in the works, some of which should be available by the summer. Furthermore he’s looking for a female singer to join the group and share vocal duties.

How We Are (2004-2007)

Rochester, NY hardcore act How We Are have announced their impending breakup.

There are several factors causing us to make this decision but after some discussions and silly arguments we’re on the same page and feel this is the best decision. […] Things are ending on good terms and as bummed as we are that it’ll be over soon we feel it’s better to go out on a high note than wait until no one cares.

The band, who released their debut full-length To Teach a Hundred last year via the now-defunct Triple Attack Records, has details on their final shows available via their MySpace page.

Vocalist Rory Vangrol will continue on in his metal/hardcore outfit Achilles, who released their second full-length, Hospice, this past week.

Unearth parts with drummer

Metalcore act Unearth has decided to continue on without drummer Mike Justian. The group has issued the following statement:

Last night marked the end of the line for Mike Justian with Unearth. There are many reasons why we decided it was time to move on without him, but we are not in the business of airing dirty laundry. We will say that we grew apart as individuals and as musicians and the split will be best for both the band and Mike….

Mike is an amazing drummer and will surely turn up in another band soon. We traveled the world with him, shared some of the best experiences of our lives and can call him a brother forever. It was just time for both parties to split, plain and simple. We wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors.

Filling in on the rest of their current tour with Dimmu Borgir, Devil Driver and Kataklysm will be Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad. The band continues to tour in support of last year’s release, III: In the Eyes of Fire.

Dexter Holland talks about the songs for Offspring’s new album

The Offspring‘s Dexter Holland has posted another update on the band’s follow up to 2003’s Splinter:

Hey, I‘ve read a few things out there where it has been suggested that some of the songs on our new record might be older material, like outtakes or re-recordings of old songs.

So I just wanted to let you know that the songs we‘ve recorded for our upcoming CD are all completely new. We‘re not putting any songs on the new record that were previously recorded. That would be cheating, wouldn‘t it?

The band plans to play Japan in August, appearing at the Summer Sonic Festival on the 11th and 12th alongside bands like Sum 41, Avenged Sevenfold, Bloc Party, Interpol, and of course Cyndi Lauper.
