Great News For SciFi Fans

The Dead Zone returns to USA Network on June 12, paired with new episodes of The 4400, TV Guide Online reported.

Other than the strange schedule the Deadzone keeps, it is a great show. Paired with the 4400, another awesome SciFi show, this will be a great 2 hours of television.

Fans of the Daywalking Vampire will be happy to hear this….

Spike TV says it has ordered a two-hour movie that will act as a pilot for a series based on the Blade movies, with a premiere targeted for early next year, Zap2It reported.

In more interesting SciFi news….

Star Trek: Enterprise producers Brannon Braga and Rick Berman told SCI FI Wire that they understood the recent disparaging comments made by cast members about the final episode, but stood by their execution of the series finale.

I would just like to point out the use of the words execution of the series…. His words, not mine…. Funny how accurate they really are… Thanks for “executing” what could have been a great Star Trek series….

See Mom, my days playing Nintendo werent wasted :)

Put on your thinking caps for this one as it requires a bit of brain power. It seems as though IQ tests scores have been steadily rising during the last several decades in every industrialized country on earth. Are people getting smarter? Is our education system improved? Do kids study more? No! One researcher believes that life, and video games in particular, better prepares us for IQ tests now:

“Over the last 50 years, weve had to cope with an explosion of media, technologies, and interfaces, from the TV clicker to the World Wide Web. And every new form of visual media – interactive visual media in particular – poses an implicit challenge to our brains: We have to work through the logic of the new interface, follow clues, sense relationships. Perhaps unsurprisingly, these are the very skills that the Ravens tests measure – you survey a field of visual icons and look for unusual patterns.”

“The best example of brain-boosting media may be videogames. Mastering visual puzzles is the whole point of the exercise – whether its the spatial geometry of Tetris, the engineering riddles of Myst, or the urban mapping of Grand Theft Auto.”

Adobe to aquire Macromedia

Its been rumored that Adobe had interest in acquiring Macromedia for quite a while now. Looks like the reality is now.

The webmaster where I work, asked this question:

"I wonder what tools well be working with 5 years from now? Probably not much different. But, Macromedia has always held up the other side of the scale from Adobe. Where Adobe had shortcomings, Macromedia filled the void.

I suppose Adobe is the Microsoft of the multimedia world."

Life on an Alien Planet Discovered

File this under cool things on TV that should keep you away from the computer for at least 2 hours. The Discovery Channel is going to have a show called Alien Planet. The premise is what if we were the ones to discover an alien planet, instead of aliens finding us. I know you are probably thinking little green men, but they look at it from a realistic approach.

What if we find another planet with life. What would that life be like? With real scientists, including the world famous Stephen Hawkings, taking a serious look at we could find out there, this is a must see show for SciFi fans or even Space Fans.

May 18th, 8PM ET/PT – Dont forget to set the Tivo.
Discovery and Discovery HD (Its almost enough to make me get HD for one show)

Diablo 3 In The Works?

Scanning the net, we came across the rumor control page at GameSpot. Most of it was X-box related, but the last item really caught my attention. It involves development on Diablo 3, which has not been publicly announced by Blizzard.

From the GameSpot Article:

Midweek, the fan site Diabloii.net received an e-mail from someone claming to be a “musician in Czech Republic.” The person said that, “I have recently been to Bratislava in Slovak Republic for recording sessions with local Radio Symphony Orchestra, where we just recorded music for Diablo 3.” So why should we give credence to someone who could be a crank from a former Warsaw Pact country? Because the music for the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction was recorded in Bratislava, Slovakia, with the Slovak Radio Philharmonic, around four months before the expansion pack was released. By that same calculus, if the music for Diablo III was recorded this month, then the game could be released before the end of the year. (Although some rumors pegging it as a PlayStation 3 launch title would make that unlikely.) So while theres no definitive proof that Diablo III is in the can, it is looking more and more likely that Blizzard will announce the game soon…and perhaps as early as E3.

Hmmmmm…… This could be interesting…..

Hubble May Be Saved

In more news unrelated to gaming or music, I just got word that NASA is considering sending a shuttle mission to service the aging Hubble telescope. I hope this happens. The Hubble is one of the greatest Astronomy tools we have and it would be a shame for it to crash to earth years before a replacement is scheduled to launch.

BF2 Demo and Release Date

Straight from -1313-Evil_Homer from Planet Battlefield:

“The demo release for Battlefield 2 will be in Mid-June it will feature one map. This was said from the executive producers Scott Evans during community day at EARS. So look forward in June for the demo. While I write this newspost I am currently alt-tabbed out of Battlefield 2 game, and all I can say in short words is Game of the year. So look forward for a report sometime this week. Bye for now from EARS.”

**”Note: Official Release Date for Battlefield 2: June 23, 2005 (Ship Date: June 22). This date will be earlier for Europeans, its estimated it will be June 17, 2005.”

Need I say more?

I just wonder how I can justify buying my wife BF2 for her Birthday 🙂

One More Example of Congressional Idiocy….

Discovered this via BoingBoing and although it isnt the usual type of thing posted here at GamersRadio, it seems like something that word needs to be spread about.

It seems as though a bill has been introduced into the Senate that would ban the weather service from publishing weather data. Instead, that data would go directly to companies like Accuweather (a contributor to the Senator sponsoring the bill) to publish for profit. The problem that I have with this is that as taxpayers we pay for that weather data to be collected

Reproduced from BoingBoing:

“The National Weather Services Duties Act (S.786) would ban NWS from “competing” with private entities by making it unlawful for the agency to publish user-friendly weather data and barring NWS experts from speaking one-on-one to news agencies. Why? Because Senator Santorum believes that companies like AccuWeather would make more money if they didnt have to compete with “free.” Thats right – he believes you should pay twice for your weather information in order to line the pockets of the private weather industry, which *already* benefits from repackaging the data that tax-funded agencies like NWS give away. Thats not only unfair, its a bad precedent for our national information resources.”

If you dont think that this bill is a good idea, you can send an email to your States Senators via the Electronic Frontier Foundation

DICE Announces New FPS

Today, DICE released this Press Release announcing a new First Person Shooter based on their Brand.

Interestingly enough, the game is being developed by DICE Canada, the same folks that brought us Battlefield Vietnam. Even more interesting, this new game is due in the Fall of this year. The short development time leads me to believe this will be an expansion for Battlefield 2 and not a new full blown game. Maybe a port of BF42 to the new engine? 🙂

In other Battlefield 2 news, it is being reported in a recent interview that DICE will indeed support Linux servers. Still no change on only Official EA servers supporting the ranking system.

Razes Hell….. LOL!

I have no idea what this game is, but when it talks about one of your own staff members like this, you have to give it some publicity…… hehehe

Razes Hell puts players in the role of Raze, a hideous-looking hero, whose purpose is to stop an invasion of adorable characters (known as Kewletts) and restore his planet to its natural ugly state.

Lucasarts Announces Star Wars Battlefront II

I bought the first Battlefront. I played it one night, put it away and never touched it again. Its funny, but I had more fun playing the Battlefield 42 mod Galactic Conquest than I did playing this professional game.

I am a fair person. Ill reserve judgement until I get to play the game. The bar has been set pretty low based on your first game. I hope you can do better the second time.
