Neurosis ressurects Beyond The Pale at Roadburn 2009

NeurosisOakland, CA’s Neurosis have announced the resurrection of their music festival Beyond The Pale at next year’s Roadburn 2009. The event will take place on April 25th and will have the band hand picking fifteen artists and setting the lineup to perform in conjunction with the Roadburn Festival. Guitarist and vocalist Steve Von Till had this to say:

It is a great honor and privilege to have asked to host our own Beyond the Pale event at Roadburn 2009. Since playing Roadburn 2007, we could think of no better people to work with on this event than the organizers and promoters of Roadburn and the wonderful staff at the 013. Roadburn is a completely different experience than the traditional music festival. It is a small, intimate, extremely well organized festival, put together by people who love the bands, and thrive on creating a unique social vibe where the lines between artist, audience, and staff are often completely blurred.

Participating bands so far include Akimbo, US Christmas, and The Young Gods. Neurosis recently recorded a live show for VBS.tv.

Resonance: “Transfuse”

Resonance Today we’re proud to bring you a full stream of Transfuse, the sole LP from RVA melodic hardcore act Resonance, who officially called it quits earlier this year. The band has garnered comparisons to everyone from Kid Dynamite and Shook Ones to the Get Up Kids and the Revolution Summer era.

Transfuse was released on Collapse Records a few months ago and compiles the band’s first two demos, recorded in July 2004 and July 2005, respectively. The band’s only other release was last year’s split 7″ with Permanent. If Tranfuse seems familiar, it’s because it’s the official vinyl pressing of 2004-2006, a CD-R the band released in extremely limited quantities, with a slightly altered track listing.

If the band’s breakup has you bummed, don’t worry too much — we’re told member(s) have started a new band with Permanent’s drummer, described as “Fugazi meets Hot Snakes.”

You can check out the stream on their Punknews.org profile.”

Brian Cook (These Arms Are Snakes) talks about age, maturity and music

Brian Cook, frontman for Seattle’s These Arms Are Snakes, was recently featured on MTV’s Headbanger’s Blog. Much like Geoff Rickey’s entry, the tone is more like a social essay than your standard blog entry, with Cook touching on a number of different topics that apply to maturity and music:

Punk music was meant to be dangerous, so it’s strange to see so many youth advocacy groups embrace that underground culture. I’m glad to see the torch passed to a new generation of young fans, but I wonder if the music could possibly mean as much when it’s offered in a parent-friendly environment. And this is where s–t just gets weird. I’d really rather it was a non-issue. I don’t want to sit around and contemplate whether I’m a positive roll model.

The post also features six songs from the band’s new album, Tail Swallower and Dove, which was released this year. You can read the entire entry here.
