Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy optioned for film

Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba‘s comic book, The Umbrella Academy, has been optioned for a film version. Gerard talked about the prospect with NME:

If we get the right people in place, it could be really amazing but I’m trying not to think about it too much. I’m keeping my head focused on the comics.

He also spoke to the LA Times saying:

I’ve heard 2010 and 2011. I think 2010 is the big Marvel year, right? So maybe 2011. Not that this is going to be like those movies, really. I said going into the meetings that this film has to be really progressive.

Punknews.org has reviewed two sets of the series, The Umbrella Academy: Vol. 4 [comic] and The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite.

The New Rising Sons (ex-Texas Is The Reason) to reunite this fall

The New Rising Sons, the band formed by Garret Klahn after the dissolution of Texas Is The Reason, have announced plans to formally reunite:

It’s been eight years since we have even attempted to play a lick of music together. So many of the bad music business cliches happened to us back then (some of which we certainly caused), forcing us to go our separate ways. When we were all finally able to get back in the same room (only recently) without all the past hang-ups things kind of naturally fell into place again.

We realized what brought us together in the first place and what continues to still tie us together. In the age of bands reuniting for a variety of reasons, we find we’re just picking up where we left off. We never had enough popularity for this to be our big comeback. It’s just a return to where we left the music eight years ago.

New Rising Sons released two EPs through GrapeOS, the label formed by Texas is the Reason bandmate Scott Winegard.

Unfun will be released to ALL retail stores at the same time, fair and square. Hot Topic will carry it-they have our other stuff, which is great if you don’t have a mom and pop around and still like to have something in your hand to peruse. Or you can order it through Blackball.

Blackball previously reissued an expanded and remastered version of Jawbreaker’s 1995 major label debut Dear You.
