No Ozzfest for 2009

After fourteen years of the Ozzy Osbourne curated music tour/festival, it was announced yesterday that 2009 would be the year without Ozzfest, reason being that Ozzy is currently in the studio working on his tenth album and doesn’t want to tour until he has a new album to support.

In 2007, the Ozzfest tour was free to all fans to attend, and in 2008, Ozzfest was a one day event near Dallas, Texas. Also, in a bizarre throwback to the 70’s, it seems that the Osbournes will be starring in a full family variety comedy show titled Osbournes: Reloaded. More news is available here.

Infamous Orange County club is subject of new documentary

The Orange County register is reporting that on May 1 filmmaker York Shackleton will release a documentary about the Cuckoo’s Nest – birthplace of slam-dancing and scene of legendary battles with police. In June, Shackleton will begin filming a feature-length movie on the club.

The documentary will center around the Orange County club’s infamous owner, Jerry Roach, and the court battle in 1981 involving the Cuckoo’s Nest and the community of Costa Mesa.

In the article, Roach offers his view of punk at the time:

When punk got here, I didn’t like it, There was no melody, no groove, just noise, screaming and hollering. Then I realized: I’m not supposed to like it. I’m old. It was the exuberance of youth. I forgave them because I respect youth and their need to rebel. I would’ve been a punk if I was a kid.

The article includes more details and you can find it here.
