MySpace streaming The Cure: Live from Secret Shows

MySpace has launched a streaming live album from The Cure titled Live from Secret Shows. The band performed at the Troubadour for a very special MySpace Music Secret Show in December 2008. The album consists of a compilation of some of their classic and new songs from their latest album 4:13 Dream.

Pelican announce “Ephemeral” EP

Pelican have announced plans to release a new EP as their debut for Southern Lord Records. The record is titled Ephemeral and is due out June 6, 2009. The label is handling vinyl and MP3 while the band will be self-releasing the CD via the band’s own Migration Media label. They noted:

We’re pressing up 1000 copies, all of which will be packaged in custom designed and printed sleeves by our buddies Delicious Design League, the folks responsible for the screenprinted Australasia limited edition that came out, among a million other things they’ve done for us. The CD will only be available from us on tour for the time being. There will be a special edition of 50 for our Japan show as well, which I forgot to mention.

The band is also planning a split 7-inch with Young Widows and a Champions of Sound 2×7-inch which will feature exclusive songs from the band, Kayo Dot, Zozobra, and Stove Bredsky..

Saves The Day to reissue “In Reverie”

According to a post in the Q&A section of their website, Saves The Day is gearing up to reissue their polarizing major label debut, In Reverie. Frontman Chris Conley explained:

Tentatively, we’re planning to re-release In Reverie with 12 extra songs which didn’t make the record. demos and whatnot. Zeebs & Sister Sophs and all that shit, Blossom and what have you. All that. Then more. Mos Like. Maybe Knought (not). Prolly Like. Lovee Spike.

They released Under the Boards in 2007.

Social Distortion’s Mike Ness joins PETA campaign against factory farming

Mike Ness of Social Distortion has joined up with PETA2 for their new campaign against factory farming.

He posed for his first ad with peta2 next to the tagline “Fact: The Factory-Farming Industry Is the Number One Cause of Climate Change, Creating More Greenhouse-Gas Emissions Than All The Cars, Planes, Ships, Trucks, and Trains in the World Combined. Meat’s Not Green.”

He explains his concerns in a video.

NOFX and Fat Wreck Chords have lauched a contest based on the song “Creeping Out Sara” from the new NOFX album Coaster, due out April 28, 2009. This announcement was made:

Pirates Press to release new Cock Sparrer album, plan anniversary show

Pirates Press (the record label and manufacturer of vinyl) have just announced a two-day, 5-year anniversary party taking place November 13th and 14th at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. The event will feature bands such as Cock Sparrer, Detournement (members of Lifetime, Bigwig, The Ratchets), Off with Their Heads, The Re-Volts, Harrington Saints and more.

In other Pirates Press news, the label extension of the company will be releasing the new Cock Sparrer album, Here We Stand, on May 19, 2009.
