Iggy Pop has posted the new single from his forthcoming solo album. The record is titled Préliminaires and is due out May 18, 2009. The album is inspired by the novel, La Possibilité d’une île and is inspired by jazz, particularly New Orleans style jazz.
The song in question features a trumpet, trombone and clarinet and Pop compares it to New Orleans-era, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton-types of Jazz.
The second part of the recently posted interview with Fat Mike of NOFX and Fat Wreck Chords has gone up. Like the first segment, Mike is mainly discussing the state of the music industry, and what precipitated the recent Fat price drop.
Mike is skeptical about the future of the CD:
The problem is kids nowadays – and I do mean kids, because their attention spans are different – will download a single or two from a band and that’s what they’ll put on their iPod. They’re not really interested in a whole album because they don’t fucking have forty minutes in their day to listen to a whole album.
He also thinks that price has more to do with the current music industry slump than anything else:
Well, it’s got something to do with it. But that’s been the argument for years. People are just sick of spending sixteen bucks on a record and then finding out there are two good songs on it.
In the 70’s and 80’s […] their records were basically good all the way through. You didn’t buy a Zeppelin record and go, “Oh, there’s only one good song on here.” The bands cared about how good the entire record was. And if there was downloading then, you’re not going to buy “Black Dog” and then not get the rest of the album.
I’ve always been so obsessed with albums, but at this point I’m thinking let’s have a go at the format that is the best format for hardcore.’ A six song 7″

The New York Hardcore institution known as Agnostic Front has been around in consistent form since 1983, making it one of the longest-running hardcore bands that hasn’t splintered into some unrecognizable faction or faux-legacy of reunions and hostile takeovers (see “Dead Kennedys,” “Misfits,” “Gang Green,” etc). Nearly thirty years after their formation, I (GlassPipeMurder) had the chance to sit down with founding guitarist Vinnie Stigma, Joseph James, Mike Gallo, and drummer Pokey Mo, who had just joined Agnostic Front last month. I don’t feel like I pulled any punches in this interview, and the band was very forthcoming, sincere, and appreciative of the interest in Agnostic Front.
The band released Warriors in 2007 and talked about the past, present, and future of Agnostic Front backstage before their show at Minneapolis’ Triple Rock Social Club.
