The Mars Volta members comment on At the Drive-In reunion

The Mars Volta have commented further on reunion rumours sparked by a reconciliation with their former At The Drive-In bandmates. Speaking to Gigwise at Mercury Records HQ in West London, Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala said they’re happy to reconnect with their former bandmates but rumours of reunions are unlikely to come true:

(The reunion rumours surfaced when) we took time to bury the hatchet with the other members. There had been a lot of shit talk, at least on my behalf, and I had stuff that I wanted to say. I wanted to be friends with the guys again. (A reunion) couldn’t happen any time soon because we have so much Mars Volta material.

We’re smart enough to never say never as you don’t know how life is going to happen. It’s like your first girlfriend, you learned amazing things together, but do you really want to open that can of worms? The thing with At the Drive In was the excitement of the first time. Like the first girlfriend or sexual experience, you can never recreate that moment.

Mutoid Men: “Orbits”

Mutoid Men have posted a new song. The band is a new project from former Shorebirds and Latterman frontman Matt Canino along with former Shorebirds bandmate and Jawbreaker bassist Chris Bauermeister. The project is described by Canino as “wild scientific rock with moog keyboards. Like AC/DC on acid.” That band has nearly completed recording their 12-song debut full-length, Mutoid World.

Banner Pilot finish recording LP2

Banner Pilot Banner Pilot has completed their sophomore LP. Bassist Nate Gangelhoff blogged:

We mastered it yesterday. Really excited for it to come out– it’s definitely the best thing we’ve done so far. I know every band always says that about their new record, even if their new record is a steaming pile of dog shit. I mean, do you ever hear a band say “Just finished the new record. It’s not nearly as good as our old stuff. Kind of sucks, even. Catch us on tour”? Of course not. But this time, we’re totally telling the truth.

The as-yet-untitled record is due out this fall and will be the band’s first for Fat Wreck Chords, having released Resignation Day in 2008 via Go-Kart Records.
