As Orlando, FL’s New Mexican Disaster Squad began winding down last year, vocalist Sam Johnson began writing songs that would eventually become Virgins debut album, Miscarriage. With Virgins in motion and a new band with former band mates all ready started, No Friends, Sam shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. He will be playing with both bands at this years FEST 8 on Oct 30-Nov 1. Here Sam talks with Adam Sever about the endings of New Mexican Disaster Squad, the beginnings of Virgins, growing up in Orlando, plus he shares his experiences of previous years’ Fests.
To celebrate the release of their upcoming debut for Fat Wreck Chords, Banner Pilot and the label have put together a nice set of prizes to coincide with the release of Collapser on September 1, 2009.

With the second in their series of EPs due out today, Paint It Black spoke to Spinner about the reasoning behind the EP plan and what it suggests for the future:
We made a decision after our last album to exclusively release seven-inch EPs. I’m not getting any younger. I don’t want to wait another two and half years to put another album out. I feel very connected with our audience when we put things out at a faster pace.
Because we’re not looking at this as stop-gap behavior between albums, we spend a great deal of money on recording. We recorded this at a place where I would have done a full-length. We put a lot of energy into design and track continuity.
Check out the interview here.
Surrender was released today on Fat Wreck Chords. The previous 7-inch, Amnesia was released on Bridge Nine Records.
