Chiodos parts ways with vocalist Craig Owens

Davison, MI’s Chiodos have parted ways with longtime vocalist Craig Owens.

The band blogged about the situation on their myspace page:

To all of our friends, family, and fans: We would like to let you know that we have let Craig Owens go as the singer of Chiodos. This decision was a necessary one. Out of respect for all of the hard work that we have put in together for all of these years we will not be discussing the specific reasons that this needed to happen. We wish Craig well . We will absolutely be continuing on as a band and we will keep you informed as this next chapter unfolds. Chiodos fans are the best fans in the world and all we can ask of you, after everything you have already given us, is to share in our excitement for this next album. We promise you will not be disappointed.

The band’s last release was Bone Palace Ballet in 2007.

Built to Spill / Violent Soho

Built to Spill have announced a run of dates this October. The band will be supporting their forthcoming album, There Is No Enemy which is due out October 6, 2009. The run of shows will feature support from Australia’s Violent Soho. Violent Soho is signed to Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label and will be releasing their debut on the label early next year.

Members of Arkells, Protest The Hero, Johnstones busking for War Child

A number of musicians including Arkells, Permanent Bastards, The Johnstones and Protest the Hero will be “busking” in Toronto to raise money for the War Child charity. Through “busking,” which is simply performing for donations in a public place, the participants aim to raise $30,000 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at major street corners and in busy downtown buildings on Tuesday in Toronto, ON.

Peter Helmis (Algernon Cadwallader)

Russian Circles: “Geneva”

Russian Circles Russian Circles have launched a stream of their new full length, Geneva. The record is due out October 20, 2009 and follows Station in 2008.

The band has also confirmed the tour in support of the album which will see the band sharing the stage with Coliseum, Young Widows, Red Sparrowes, Helms Alee, Git Some and Phantom Family Halo. The band will also be stopping by The Fest 8.

Lucero: “Johnny Davis”

Lucero have posted the second in their series of fan-produced videos for tracks from 1372 Overton Park. This latest video was directed by Robert Archer, a Southern California music producer of 8 years. The video features original art by local tattoo artists and depicts a young man as he cruises the highway, receives a particularly bad ass tattoo, and ultimately meets his end in an unfair fight when his opponent pulls a gun.

The Horrors: “Whole New Way”

The Horrors are streaming a new track, “Whole New Way.” . It will be available digitally through iTunes on September 29th, and on 7″ vinyl on November 3rd. The song is not from their recently released and critically acclaimed full length, Primary Colours. The band explained:

An earlier version of the song was initially available as a bonus track on the Japanese release of Primary Colours, but we’ve since returned to it and given it an overhaul. We recorded some extra parts before giving the track a new mix at XL’s inhouse studio alongside Rodaidh McDonald.

Pavement planning UK shows

Pavement has confirmed that they will definitely be performing in the UK as part of their 2010 reunion tour. As of right now, only one date has been confirmed, a show in New York City in 2010.

Guitarist Scott Kannberg spoke to NME and suggested that the jaunt could include the a slot at Glastonbury festival, where they last played in 1999, the year they split up. Kannberg did not reveal specific details of the UK live shows, but hinted that appearances would be limited.

Weezer reveal ‘Raditude’ track listing, bonus material

Weezer have detailed their forthcoming album, Raditude. Due out October 27, 2009, the album will be available both in a standard and a deluxe edition. The deluxe edition will tack on four extra tracks and the digital version will include yet another bonus song, “The Story of My Life” as well as Weezer’s mash-up of MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.”
