Mos Def working on documentary about Detroit punk pioneers Death

Critically acclaimed hip hop artist and actor Mos Def is collaborating with Damon Dash of Roc-A-Fella Records to produce a documentary about pioneering punk outfit, Death. The all-black outfit formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1971 and the film will be directed by Coodie and Chike, who are known for working on videos for Kanye West and Mos Def.

The reunited band is set to appear at Fun Fun Fun Fest in November and is currently on tour. They performed and recorded in the early 70s, predating many of early punk bands, but were mostly lost to history and record collectors until this year. Recent reissues and a profile by the New York Times recently put the band back in the spotlight.

Dead To Me

Dead To Me While 2008 and part of 2009 may have seemed like a down time for Dead to Me, nothing could be further from the truth. In a flurry of activity the band reorganized the structure of the band (with the temporary hiatus of co-frontman Jack Dalrymple), found a new vocalist in guitar player Nathan Grice, wrote and recorded a new album and even started another band, Bad Friends. Somewhere amid the activity Dante 3000 found a chance to talk to the band about the departure of Jack, the new album and even take some time to be insulted by Chicken. (The audio of the interview can be heard in its entirety at Sound Scene Revolution).
