End of the line for the King Khan and BBQ Show?

The King Khan and BBQ Show While final confirmation from the band is forthcoming, Canadian music site Chart is calling it a day for celebrated garage rock duo The King Khan and BBQ Show. The site is reporting that a show earlier this month at Australia’s VIVID Live festival ended in ruin with a “huge screaming match” between the duo. Further shows in South Korea last week were up in the air as well, with promoters claiming that the band was done (BBQ played the dates solo).

Of course with this act it’s always questionable what’s real and what’s theatre, so it remains to be seen if King Khan and BBQ appear together at the Khan-curated Sled Island Music & Arts Festival in Calgary next week. Both musicians are also part of The Almighty Defenders along with members of the Black Lips, and the Almighty Defenders are on the bill alongside Hot Water Music, Fucked Up, Melvins, The Thermals and many others.

Arish “King” Khan and Mark “BBQ” Sultan are alumni of mid-90s Montreal garage punk acts the Spaceshits and Les Sexareenos.

Rise Against, Tom Morello collaborating with Public Enemy

Rise Against, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and others will be collaborating with legendary hip hop pioneers Public Enemy on their next album. The group is raising funds independently to finance the recording of the album through Sellaband.com and are aiming to raise $75,000 though individual investors. Currently, the band has raised $56,375 through 2,225 individuals.

In related news, PE has also put together a new song critical of recent developments in Arizona. The band, who previous criticized the state’s opposition to a Martin Luther King holiday in Arizona explained their objections in no uncertain terms.

Yeah, because the governor is a Hitler. Things do change from time to time but it goes right back into just proving that it wants to be something else. ‘Tear Down That Wall’ is something that has its own life. It’s not that you’re doing anything to be opportunistic. I talked about the wall not only just dividing the U.S. and Mexico but the states of California, New Mexico and Texas. But Arizona, it’s like, come on. Now they’re going to enforce a law that talks about basically racial profiling.

Check out the song here.

Coalesce returning to hiatus state

Coalesce After reuniting in early 2007, hardcore pioneers Coalesce have decided to take another break. The band explained:

It’s been a fun couple of years. We’ve had excellent tours with bands we love , been to Europe, East Coast, West Coast, released a new record and a follow-up EP, played some great festivals and had the opportunity to see some old friends, and meet a ton of new people. This is a good time for a break. Sean just bought a new house, Junior is starting his new business, Jes is putting the finishing touches on his PhD, and I’m going to sit on my couch and watch Shaun of the Dead. Thanks for your continued support.

In the intervening time, the band released Ox and Salt and Passage [7 inch] and saw the remastered reissue of 012:2.
