Sex Pistols license song to betting company ad

Sex Pistols have officially licensed a song to a commercial for the first time. The punk pioneers lent “Pretty Vacant” to sport betting company William Hill for their new commercial encouraging betting on football (soccer!) The band has been paid an undisclosed figure for the track, and the four members – Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock- have each been given a £500 bet to make for a charity of their choice.

The band has become more comfortable with licensing in the last few years, launching an an official fragrance and frontman Rotten participating in a butter advertising campaign. It’s a far cry from the band’s previous reputation which saw them investigated as a a significant threat to “Irish morals”.

Relapse Records signs Rabbits

Relapse Records has signed Rabbits. The band “meets somewhere in the crossroads of punk, sludge, and metal” and features ex-members of Angel Hair, The VSS, Pleasure Forever, and Lion Fever. The band recently wrapped up recording on their Relapse debut and a release date is expected soon. The band noted:

We are putting the final grimy touches on our new record, ten unhinged punk-sludge-thrash nature-crushes-man anthems. We are thrilled that our first long-player will be unleashed by the mighty Relapse–our new, seemingly fearless label–so that we may forever damage the ears and psyches of people all over the world, just as we have done for the last six years to basement dwellers and bar flies all over Portland. We will not stop until we reach the very bottom.

Check out some music on their MySpace page.
