Sex Pistols license song to betting company ad

Sex Pistols have officially licensed a song to a commercial for the first time. The punk pioneers lent “Pretty Vacant” to sport betting company William Hill for their new commercial encouraging betting on football (soccer!) The band has been paid an undisclosed figure for the track, and the four members – Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock- have each been given a £500 bet to make for a charity of their choice.

The band has become more comfortable with licensing in the last few years, launching an an official fragrance and frontman Rotten participating in a butter advertising campaign. It’s a far cry from the band’s previous reputation which saw them investigated as a a significant threat to “Irish morals”.
