There Is Hope Yet For A Major Oklahoma LAN!

Today, on the way to work, I was thinking about how much it sucked that ExtremeLan was not going to happen. I wondered what could have been done different. What would allow something like this to happen in Oklahoma? After all, this was the second major Lan party to cancel in the last year in Oklahoma. Then it occurred to me. All of the smaller Lan groups need to work together collectively to come up with a Lan they could all get behind.

Well, somebody out there must be inside my head and if I find out who you are, I’m going to hunt you down and…. Err….

Anyway, it seems a few of the local groups were already working on something like this. The website will be coming along soon, but the best information I can give is to check out the EdLan Group’s website for the current details on the 36 hour, 300 Man Lan. I hope this one makes it. Maybe with the Local groups pooling together, something really big can happen. Let’s hope ego’s, personalities and ulterior motives don’t spoil the occasion. After all, gamers just wanna have fun….!

Farewell To Great Indie Band

Since 1989, Manifest Destiny has been kicking Metal Ass in one form or another. At one time, they had a European record deal and ranked higher than Metallica on the Metal charts in a European country (Denmark, Sweden or something similar, cant remember).

Tragically loosing their front man to a fatal car accident the day before his birthday and in-between the first and second album, they persevere with a new front man, Russ Pace.

Deemed too heavy for their market, MD parts ways with their label after releasing their second album to much critical acclaim world wide. To this day, you can still find import copies of Manifest Destinys first two albums floating around on the net.

Lets move along to the year 2000. Ive been working with Russ for almost a year before I find out he is the singer in a Metal band. I think hes joking. Hes rather quiet and keeps to himself, not at all like the front man for an up your ass Metal Band. Was I in for a shock. Not only was he the lead singer, but it was a great band. I enjoyed the music so much, I debuted their last album on my own station, even before it was released. It rocked! (Funny side note: The guys in the band freaked out because some internet radio station was playing their stuff before it was released. Luckily, Russ filled them in on how we knew each other and the fact that he was actually the assistant music director for the station.)

Back to business…. Last week, I dropped by their site to find out they were going their separate ways. Even though, I only knew the band for a little less than three years, I honestly feel they were a great live Metal band and put out kick ass original Metal music. I for one was looking forward to their next album. Thanks for the great shows and the great tunes guys, you will be missed. And if I ever get my damn station back online, you will be in rotation….

To quote Russ, Peace Out….

Halo 2 Slips into 2004

Bungie announced Friday that Halo 2 for the X-Box would not be released this year, but should be released in 2004. On the flip side, the original Halo being released for PC and Mac is still on track for a 2003 release. You can get the full details here.

Within by MD, due out soon!

I would like to announce the Release of Manifest Destinys latest album, Within. Our readers/listeners in North America may not be as familiar with them, but Europe and Japan knows all about this Stillwater, Oklahoma band. Check out our own Erthdawg signing Lead as Manifest Destiny grabs you by the balls and takes control. You can hear the whole album before its released , esclusively, on the GRN broadcast. Just click on Playlist and the letter “M” and request any song you want to hear. I would suggest “Winter Within“. Although not typical of the songs on the rest of the album, it is a great song, in the Tradition of Panteras version of Planet Caravan. You can request 1 song every thirty minutes. Make sure you check out “Winter Within“, as well as listening to some of the other great songs from Manifest Destinys latest release, Within. Keep an eye on mp3.com, where you can purchase the album as soon as it is becomes available.

Oh…. And dig that album cover, sweeeeet!

OmegaCon Alpha: The Beginning…

Omegacon Alpha is the first in hopefully a long line of gaming / anime conventions to appear in Oklahoma. The goal of Omegacon is to establish a convention in Oklahoma City that people can rely on and trust to be around. Unlike some of the previous failures this convention is going to strive to achieve that which they failed. I common place for EVERYONE. The venue of games and anime will likely change and increase to fit the years as the venue of games, anime, and other events change with the times. Omegacon is also a non-profit charity event. What does this mean? It means after all the costs of the convention have been pulled from the cash intake all the money that remains will go to a named charity. The reason for this is to stand for the belief that everyone should have the chance to enjoy life. By having the convention we get people able to travel and visit but at the same time there are people that can’t. Please feel free to visit our site http://www.omegacon.org/ and contact me for any information. Or you can call at 405-302-0724 Continue reading OmegaCon Alpha: The Beginning…
