Today, we’ve got the second set of tour diaries coming from Franz Nicolay, multi-instrumentalist and member of The Hold Steady and World/Inferno Friendship Society. The shows are in support of his newly released debut. The record is titled Major General and his band features Brian Viglione (Dresden Dolls), Yula Be’eri (ex-World/Inferno), & Jared Scott (Demander). In a new interview, Fat Mike discussed some the reasons behind his recent across the board price cut for Fat Wreck Chords‘ catalogue and new titles. He explains:
Well, you know people say, “Oh, because the economy is so bad right now.” But, it’s really not that, because in the record industry the recession started four years ago. Our industry got hit a long time ago. Record sales have been going down and down and down and down. I was thinking, “Hey this is punk rock. This is a community.” People have to recognize the difference between majors and indies and major bands and independent bands.
And when you buy a record from an indie, you are supporting the label and the band. It’s not going to some faceless company that doesn’t care about music, they just care about making a profit. So, I just figured if we make our prices cheap, I don’t think people are going to feel bad about paying $8 for a CD in a store. I think they are going to feel good about supporting their band knowing that half that money is going to support the band and the label.
Mike also takes a moment to discuss bidets. Check out the interview here, which also explains why Dillinger Four never tour.

The band is currently mastering their self-titled debut and will be announcing the release date shortly. Two tracks, “The Absolute Place” (both the original, as well as the track remixed by Yeasayer’s Chris Keating) can be heard over at Stereogum.

According to a Blabbermouth report, Glenn Danzig is currently in the studio working on his next full length. Drummer Johnny Kelly of Type O Negative and Tommy Victor (Prong) will appear on most of the tracks.
The CD will feature a song called “Long Dark Road”, which is decribed by Glenn as “very creepy and echo-y. It’s like an old kind of ’50s-ish kind of song. I’ve been having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven’t gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it’s pretty cool.”
The record will be his first full length since 2004’s Circle of Snakes. In the interim year, Danzig also released his neo-classical album, Black Aria II.
